How can i get a category ID when uploading document with metadata

Hi,

When i tried to upload document with metadata, i used management client.GetCategoryTemplate(ref otAuth, int catagoryID), but it seemed you cannot put a random number there, i don't know how to set up the categoryID parameter. There is no category for this document since it's waiting for uploading and no category for its parents node neither.

Hi Di,

Why are you calling GetCategoryTemplate at all if you’re simply uploading a document?

If you don’t want category data applied to the object, then don’t include it in the metadata for the uploaded object.

We need the metadata to store some file index attribute which can be used in search in future. But i don't think i can simply set up the attributegroup as i want since it's always throwing an error about invalid AttributeGroupType. Someone had similar issue, you guys suggested using GetCatagoryTemplate to set up the values in attributegroup.

Hi Di,

You need to create a category definition in Content Server first that defines the category structure and this “file index” attribute that you refer to.

Once that definition is in the system, you can then refer to that definition’s ID to obtain the category template.

Thnanks for your reply Kyle. But where can i find the category ID after i use client.CreateCategory(), which returns a node and there is no category id in it?

The ID of the Node returned from CreateCategory() is the ID of the category.
