CreateObjEx() in Record Management Physical Object

Hi,

I am trying to create a physical item box. Based on the RM/PO API guide, there is method named CreateObjEx() can create physical items, but I could not find it in DLL. Does anybody know which object has this method and how to use it? or Does anybody know how to create physical items by using API.

You are probably misinformed on how to program in RM and PO API. LAPI is an API that was popular before OT released their webservices.IN pure LAPI one would use a CreateObject call to create a subtype as in a document 144 or a folder 0.When it comes for PO you could use the same original api to create PO(subtypes in the 400 range don't remember off hand).So to program that one installs/copies lapi client files in a 32 bit computer if I assume C#,you would use a Framework2.0.Then you would create references to the lapi dll's and you could get your createobjectex.It looks like you ahve never done lapi before so I would start small and try adding a document and folder to get past the initial vagaries of the API.then you would bring in the interface files for RM & PO form a livelink server to start using that as well.This is not explained anywhere but by trial and error I found it and I put a word document explaining how to use it in some posts long time back.

If your company has a livelink admin who knows how to create a IIS application then it would take less than 30 minutes to expose the PhysObjects,RM and Dm services as in a webservice,which you can use to program .

Based on your information, I can create a physical object box (424) by using CreateObjectEx method, but I got the error when I was trying to create a physical object container (412). The status error code is 101103. The status error message says Error Creating Node. The ErrMsg says error executing a sql statement. The API error says could not insert field value. I just modified the vaule of selectedMedia and the type code from 424 to 412. Do you know why this error occur?

Here is my code:

Try enabling connect logs on the Content Server side ([options] wantLogs=TRUE) and see what SQL query is failing.

If it’s not obvious, you may need to open a support ticket to look into it further.

Hi Li,

Go to the Physical Properties tab of the Physical Item Type (the one with ID 11111 specified below). You’ll see the additional fields you will need to add to your request object. Then take a look at the source HTML on the Add Item page when you create the box to see what the form names are for those fields. These are the field names you need to add to your request. The reason you are getting the error “Could not insert field values” is because the code is looping through the list of physical properties and trying to insert non-existent values in the table.
