Building your own web service

Hi,

I'm following along the instructions in the SDK and I'm a bit confused. Apparently you need ant to go any further, and visual studio. I have the latter. The _GenerateSource() in my service does generate a bunch of .NET (as well as java) source. I'm not sure exactly what the ant build script does. Does it actually just invoke the VS command line compiler? If so, does the version work for VS2010 or VS2012? Can one just make a project from the Generated Source and build the .SVC file that way? If I absolutely need ant to do any of this, what version is supported?

Any of the newer Ant versions are fine. We've been working with 1.6.2, 1.7.1, and 1.9.1 without any issues.
The Ant build script compiles it all, builds the service binaries, generates the WSDL from WCF by hosting the .NET service and pulling down the WSDL from the C# hosted service, then modifies the WSDL files for JAX-WS before finally building the JAX-WS version and wrapping it up in a WAR file.

You don't need the Ant build script if you want to just make your own solution from the C# code output by _GenerateSource(), and build it that way.

Hi,

I have been trying to build some webservices, but having some errors building the .WAR file.

I am using Visual Studio 2010 Pro with ANT 1.82 and JRE/JDK 1.6 Build 20.

The .NET WSDL files are generated with schema files. But when the ANT script tries to build the Java components it can't find reference for import com.opentext.livelink.service.core.*; and therefore it does not compile and no classes are generated.

I couldn't attach the results.txt file so I pasted it here:
