Refolder documents from temp folder

hey,

I have recently started working on content server 10.0.0, and organization is moving from  an existing DMS system. One of features we want to develop is custom module running on CS 10 which would monitor a temp folder for documents and create approriate user folders based on the document category and its attributes. Is this possible by OOTB conifguration or customization please advise on possible approach. Thanks for help

Hi Ravi,

There are a variety of ways to accomplish this. The decision on which to use depends on the tools you have available, on the skills of available developers, and likely on additional requirements that you haven't stated (or might not yet know!).

When you say "custom module" that immediately implies an OScript addition to the server that extends its functionality. There may be reasons why that could be called for. You can also consider a client-side process, written in some other language, monitoring the folder that then uses Content Web Services to create folders and documents in the system with their content from the file system. If you have Object Importer (OI) you could have the client-side process instead create control files (in XML format) that would then allow for OI to perform the importing. Or if you have WebReports you can have it monitor and take appropriate action.

I think it would be best to be sure you have a complete set of requirements (e.g. is there additional metadata to be applied? are there permissions to be set on the content? how are exceptions to be handled? is there additional processing required once items are imported? is logging or additional auditing needed? etc.), and you then compare possible solutions to those requirements, and consider the experience of the development team that will could take them on.
