Using Node SDO in a custom web service

I am just enquiring if something like this is possible.  Let's say someone wanted to write their own web service to do some custom task. Let's say that the custom task returned what amounts to a DAPI Node.  If you're writing your own service, are you able to use other SDO's that are part of the core services? i.e. can one return a list of Node SDO's within their own service? If not, I'm guessing that the approach would have to be to extend the DocMan service (which actually implements the Node SDO).  Is there an example of this? Are either of these approaches at all endorsed by Open Text?

You can definitely use the core SDOs in your own service.  There are examples of this within the core services themselves, referencing SDOs from other services.

 

Take a look at the Collaboration service.  Many of the methods return Node objects which are defined in the DocumentManagement service and some of the SDOs contain properties that are from other services.

 

For example, the CreateChannel() method returns a Node object that is defined in the DocumentManagement service.  The ProjectParticipant SDO has a property that references the Member SDO from the MemberService.
