SearchService WS - Searching document with categories

Hi!

I need to use search service WS in java, I look at some examples.

I need to search for a document with a Certain category and with a value inside a attribute of Certain That category, the Search Service through WS?

for example, Given a category 'CAT' with an attribute 'A', search documents with category 'CAT' and value 'V' in attribute 'A'.

I did not find anything.

Can anyone help me?

You can try this:

SingleSearchRequest qry = new SingleSearchRequest();

qry.DataCollectionSpec = "'LES Enterprise'"; // use the Enterprise search slice

qry.QueryLanguage = "Livelink Search API V1";

qry.FirstResultToRetrieve = 1; // start retrieving results at Result #1

qry.NumResultsToRetrieve = 50; // retrieve up to 5 search results

qry.ResultOrderSpec = "sortByRegion=OTCreatedBy"; // sort by the OTCreatedBy region

qry.ResultSetSpec = "where1=" + txtsearchqry.Text; // set the where clause of the query

where txtsearchqry textcontrol has value: "OTSubType":0 AND "Attr_17724_8": "SomeText"

where 17724 is Category ID & 8 is Attribute ID.

where can I see the ID attribute of a category?

I dont think you can use category names in the search query but you can resolve the ID from the category name and build the Attr_<CatID>_<AttrID> string. Here is the link to the example for search : https://knowledge.opentext.com/knowledge/cs.dll?func=ll&objId=15633272&objAction=browse .

To find the attribute id, if you have chrome browser, Edit the Category, right click on the attribute name and choose Inspect element. Look for the id element which looks like "label_1_1_2" where 2 is the attribute id. (also shown in the attached screenshot )

I use this string whereClause = "OTSubType: 0 AND Attr_19269_6: test1" to make the search for a document with id category "19269" and id attribute "6" with the value of attribute "test1", but does not return results.

this is the method:

Can you use the string "OTSubType":0 AND "Attr_19269_6":"prova1" in your regular Content Server Search and see if you can see any search results.

sorry, starting from CS 10, in search queries we need to enclose the key & value within double quotes. I guess you might have to do the same in your C# code.

I would give you some advice: if you run your search in this way, you will find only already indexed documents. In my scenario, this was a problem: look at this topic.

If also in your scenario is important to have "real-time results", Live Report is the best solution

I would agree with Riccardo, If you have a really simple category and trying to access less attributes. But if you are having a category with sets or having more attributes to filter on, then Search Query is the best way as joining with multiple LLATTRDATA tables for multiple attributes is a performance hit or in some cases is not possible. As mentioned by Riccardo the down side of Search Query is not real-time (meaning, if you add a document and immediately search with Search WebService, you may not find it as it has to go through the indexing process. In my experience the indexing process would take about 5-10mins (depending on amount of data added/updated to the system and also depends on server specs).

What happens if you use Advanced Search query and find the category using the GUI and the attribute and run it does it work? Does search work? like a wild card.The advanced search query should mimic what you are doing in code

To clarify, only the region name must be encased in quotation marks.

The value does not need to be, unless of course you are attempting to do a phrase search.

From your posts I could make out that you are showing bits and pieces of your Livelink system .Most systems there will be a search bar running on the top. Depending on the version it can be styled/skinned any which way and it is very powerful

I show you a screen cap of the KB search See on the left on the KB center where it says ‘Categories’ you use that find the Category:ATT and search but on YOUR system.. This is exactly what your code also does because it is its own API(Search XML API)

I had to create and advanced search because I find the simple search very confusing and never giving me anything I want any time.

If you are a starter in Livelink ask if a admin would be able to show you around.
