Updating Indices on existing documents

We have a scenario where the indices set on an already uploaded document can change over time. And we need to reflect the new indices in all uploaded content. Is updating indices on existing documents supported in open text? Or do we add the document again with same name but different indices and that would update the document/creates a new version of the document?

Hi Rizwan,

Yes, you certainly can change the existing attribute values on items without needing to create new versions. (Content Server refers to search values being in "regions" instead of "indices".) Note that changes can only be made to attributes of the current version; once a newer version is added the values on earlier versions become read-only.

Chris, thanks for your reply. Would this update be possible via web service call or direct http call? If so, could you point me to the documentation describing it? The users wouldn't want to manually update the values for the indices (regions) we use, so they have to do it through our application, which currently supports webservice calls and direct http calls to opentext server. Both CWS and ELS are web services API that allow for updates to metadata. Which you'd use depends on the type of installation you have and the leading apps that are installed for it; the native API for Content Server is CWS. All three of the areas above have documentation and forums. (In fact this very discussion is in a forum behind the last link above.)
