How to check if folder exists in OT?

Hi,

I have a folder created in OT. The hieraerchy is

Enterprise:Folder A: Folder B: Folder C: Folder D:subFolder d

With .NET, I want to check if subFolder d exists under "Folder A" or not. Is it possible with any method to achieve this by supplying the Parent Id as Folder A? Or what should be the approach?

Actually there is a function called getNodeByName that takes parent ID and name as parameters. That would be efficient way of doing it than crawling through each node.

That is true and it even works with path information as part of the name so you can:

getnodebyname(2000,'Library:C/:Temp:readme.txt')

I used "2000" for the Enterprise WS but any container Object ID will work as the root.

However, what I wanted to point out was that neither of these approaches truly shows existence unless you have system administrator privileges, otherwise you can't tell the difference between insufficient permissions and non-existence of the file.

Does getNodeByName work on sub folders?The documentation I have read indicates that parentid is the immediate parent and won't work if it is a grand parent or great grandparent.

I also don't wan to loop around a resultset as the folder structure we are searching, the names will be unique. The topology is:Claims | YYYY | MM | DD | <unique claim number>. In fact claims folders are unique even under the Claims top folder.

We couldn't figure it out so we wrote a query against the dtreeancestors and dtree tables.

The example I provided retrieves a file from a folder hierarchy starting from the Enterprise WS, specifically "Library" -> "C/" -> "Temp" ... that call was tested before I posted, it returns a node that is the file "readme.txt" in the above folder. If you know the full path name (from any starting point), you can perform the same sub-folder search.

What you can't do is $docman.getnodebyname(2000,"readme.txt") and expect to find that node unless it is in the Enterprise WS itself even if "readme.txt" is unique in the Enterprise volume, you have to supply the full path. Sounds like that would be easy for you without iterating though.

GetNodeByName happens to work with a path although, as you point out, that functionality is not documented.

You might want to use GetNodeByPath which is documented to do what you're wanting.

Oh that's right, I had forgotten all about that. We do use getnodebypath() in the "nodeinfo" suite of commands but I used getnodebyname() originally for the first "addDoc" command to check to see if the requested upload exists and was surprised one day to see that it worked with full path name during testing. I then concluded (incorrectly it seems) that getnodebyname() was simply an alias for getnodebypath() and thought no more about it. I take it from your note, Chris, that is not so and I'll see that the code gets updated to conform to theh documented API.
