Search API in XML

Hi All,

When I use below query

where1=mysearch&boolean2=and&lookFor2=complexquery&where2=(OTLocation:41814)&outputformat=xml

I get the following error,

Exception in thread "main" javax.xml.ws.soap.SOAPFaultException: Set Specification Syntax Failure. You are not allowed to modify the 'outputformat'

Can you please help me? On the other hand, when I use this query via browser I get all results listed in XML.

Hi Hayrettin,

I’m assuming you’re doing this through Content Web Services through a SearchService.Search() call.

You cannot specify the outputformat parameter for that API because the output from Content Server is being parsed by the web service – not your code.

The web service then structures the data into a graph and provides you with a SingleSearchResponse object.

You must then retrieve search result information from that object structure.

If you want to use the non-SOAP Search API directly, then you’ll need to actually handle the HTTP requests to Content Server in your code and not lean on the web service.

Thanks a lot. Can I use userlogin=**** with API then? or this is only possible with HTTP requests too?

Or more importantly, how can I achieve user behaviour while using Opentext API.

Basically, I want to authenticate via admin user, then when copying a document I want to give another username and this document will be created by that user.

Hi Hayrettin,

I strongly recommend using the non-web-services Search API (i.e., ?func=search) to programmatically perform searches.

The behaviour of that API most closely resembles that of search via the GUI and it’s also the API that we’re putting the R&D behind.

If you really want to use the SearchService web service, you would impersonate when obtaining your authentication token, then execute the search via the SearchService using that token.

Same goes for any DocumentManagement web service activity.

Hello Kyle,

We basically use the the search webservices, and have stumbled upon couple of issues :

1: Can't search against any value consisting "&"

2: The Search results weren't reflecting the actual results and nor the total results.

Opex text recommended to use Search API, now our issue is we need to impersonate to another username and password for any user who tries to access content, but evidently we are having issues to pass the username and password, as we get 401 UnAuthorized.

We are creating the webrequest in C#, please enlight us if you have any valuable input on it, highly apperciate your time.

Hi Nidhi,

The & search issue was addressed in the CS 10.x 2014-09 updates. With that update level (or later) use %26 to encode & chars.

If the user performing the search request has System Administration rights, they may impersonate another user by passing &userLogin=jsmith &userDomain=domainName is optional. The impersonated user's password is not needed.
