how can 3rd party system access OTCS, in a way similar to SAP ecmlink

hello guys

here i have a typical customer requirement that they want to use OTCS as 'central document repository', when means , they want their 3rd party systems (e.g. SAP, oracle, Siebel CRM) be able to access documents & images managed in OTCS.

we know opentext has a very mature solution for SAP,    SAP  ecmlink is developed for this senario, Opentext has also enhanced SAP stanrdard screen so that users can directly manipulate (display, upload etc) documents within SAP GUI.

so my question is , what the best practice for other business system  to integrate with OTCS?  i think webservice is the interface but how it's called from external system ?  or opentext consultant is only responsible for  offering an interface, and it's completely other vendor's problem to figure out how to call this webservice from their own system?

The person replying this is a Livelink Developer/administrator so not doing a sales pitch as well as this is my way of understanding it.Delaware being a OT partner you should probably get more info if you went through any channels that may be available to you.Someone official from OT may be able to give you a better answer as well.

Content Server has more than one interface defined by the Vendor.

1. CS Server API- Offered in .net and Java it allows developer to write code from application that may want to use livelink's storage and other features.This is the WS API that replaced old LAPI. LAPI clients and servers will work but not advisable.
   
2. Enterprise Library services API-the one you talked about ECM link and RM link work from SAP through this mechanism.The livelink/archive server is black boxed from the developer who thinks he is talking to almost a Tomcat Server but actually the TC server is responsible for making the individual connection work.Traditionally Livelink,/Archive server is in the mix.A lot of configuration is required but once it is set you have developer documentation for coding this.You will haer SAP ABAP programmers talk about Business Property Providers,that falls into this class.
   
3. REST API-To have a mobile presence Livelink now has a REST API exposed by the Appworks tool kit.Again the developer uses JSON programming against a TC server to have things done in livelink.Not ideally suited for massive document ingestion etc. See the LinkediN post

ELIB has undergone massive changes(for the better I think) so my info is perhaps a little outdated

Livelink's search is also a API so usually ones uses POST/GET to get results but object manipulation for e.g if you found a resultant object you could not change its properties,you would have to resort to published API's
