How to update a category attribute applied to a document using workflow?

Hi

Is it possible to update the attribute values at the time when a user creates a document and the category popup window appears to be filled in. We have a requirement where a user wants to fill a user field with current logged in user and corresponding fields depending upon the user data.Or we will need any customisations to fulfill this need.
