Best practice to get ObjectID of Category using name

Hi,

We are using OT CS v10.0

There are 2 scenarios: First, Category is present in the Content Server Categories container and  Second, Category resides in a Folder in the Enterprise Workspace.

I have with me the name of the category.

What is the best practice or best method to get the ObjectID of the Category using CWS?

Any pointers will be highly appreciated.

Hi Angad,

If it is stored in Content Server Categories container/volume then you can use getNodeByName function.
Ex:
//Searching Category by passing Category name
        private void GetCategoryID(string CatName)
        {
            DocumentManagementClient docMgmtClient = new DocumentManagementClient();

            OTAuthentication OtAuth = new OTAuthentication();

            OtAuth.AuthenticationToken = General.AuthToken;

            Node CatWS = null;
            Node CatNode = null;
            int CategoryWSID;
            int CatObjectID;

            try
            {
                CatWS = docMgmtClient.GetRootNode(OtAuth, "CategoriesWS");
                CategoryWSID = CatWS.ID;

                CatNode = docMgmtClient.GetNodeByName(OtAuth, CategoryWSID, CatName);

                if (CatNode != null)
                {
                    CatObjectID = CatNode.ID;
                    Console.WriteLine("Category ID : " + CatObjectID);
                }
                else
                {
                    Console.WriteLine("Category not found");
                }
            }
            catch (FaultException e)
            {
                Console.WriteLine("Failed: " + e.Code.Name, e.Message);
                return;
            }
            finally
            {
                docMgmtClient.Close();
            }
       }

In case if it is stored under any other folder, then you can search by Passing ParentID instead of Category WorkspaceID.
You can use getNodeByPath as well, here you should enter the full path.
