user choice for date input on categories

After upgrading from content Server 10 to Content Server 10.5 some of our category inputs have changed.

Before the user could ad date as keyboard input, but they are now forced to use the new calender?

Does anybody know how we can make it possible for the user to choose himself either to type or to choose by calender? Preferrably with suggested date already set to todays date. See attached picture

To get the old input format back, have the user turn on keyboard accessibility (personal settings in Content Server).

Enabling this setting seems to have the unfortunate side effect of limiting the available dates to 1990 through 2027 - it turns each date part into a constrained HTML select, instead of an input field wrapped with a parser.

Was this "feature" also present in pre-10.5 before the calendar date picker was introduced?

the date can be set back by doing this in your opentext.ini

[dateformats]

InputDateMinYear=1990

InputDateMaxYear=2027
