Problems converting permissions bitmasks for reporting on permissions

Hello,

I'm currently working on a statement with CASE argument that will allow me to report on a permissions object and convert the permissions bitmask to it's corresponding set of permissions. The problem that I'm having is that I've found a specific combination that appears to have two different bitmasks. Permissions S,SC,M,EA,R,DV comes up either as 258179 or 16777187 (all of this on folders, subtype 0).

Does anyone have any ideas why the same set of permissions can have two different bitmasks in the database?

Can we see a snippet of your query? I have always relied on Oracle BitAnd to crunch my bitmasks

In SQLserver there is corresponding BitChecking mechanisms too trying to go by the integers

May not be right.IN LR class they give you the bitchecking algorithms as well.

Since we are on the subject of dtreeacl

It should have 4 standard positions 1,2,3,4 and then 0 to indicate added ACL which position is indicating both258179 and 16777187

The query gets a lot of NULL values, most of which are the bitmask that I referenced earlier. Every time, the permissions set is the same as 258179.

In my opinion you should stay away from trying to do what you are doing but rely on what Colin posted

That is a smarter approach .If you search the term “BitAnd” you will get hundreds of LR here that

In finding ways to use SQL Server equivalents of what I use everyday in Oracle, I search the internet. By far, I am no SQL expert, but there are plenty of places where others have had to do the same. Originally 5 years or so ago, I had used values and they were very difficult and tedious to use. This method uses a more or less fool-proof way of checking the permissions bits.
