Specify custom columns for folder

How can I automate defining which custom columns are displayed in a folder? I am creating folders with the DocumentManagement web service. I can add columns to the new folders in the web ui(Properties > Columns) but can't find an equivalent web service. I will be creating tens of thousands of folders with different column display requirements so I really need a way to automate it.

Hi Mark, Rudd,

I know this is an old thread but it is the only one I can find dicussing this. Did either of you ever figure out a way to set the columns via web services (or any other API for that matter)?

Setting the display columns is taking up a large amount of hours on my support teeam so I was hoping to find a way to automate this. We already have an automatied process in place to create the folder structure, assign the Classiifications, assign permissions and assign catagories. This is basically the last outstanding item.

If there is no functionality to perform this work via the APIs I will probably attemt to use the browser control and set the columns as a user would through control reading / spoofing inputs. I have had to do this for SharePoint in the past but I would prefer a solution using the APIs.

There is currently no way to set column configuration on a folder through the CWS or REST APIs.

I’m not sure if WebReports offers this capability as an alternative option.

I’d be interested to know more details about the automated process your team is running and the specific use case.
