Get frontend URL from CWS

Hi,

is there a way to find the front end URL for content server using the CWS web services?
I looked through the API docs, but couldn't find any objects that would give me this.
It is relevant when front end is deployed on a different machine that the web services.

You could have many front-end URLs that point to a single Content Server instance.

The complete list of front-end URLs is not something that CS would have full knowledge of.

If it is to provide a workable URL for which I have the dataid what if I had a http address so that I can build a convenient URL then this workaround may help. We do this in Oscript and Webreports.

Most livelink places will have their user accessible URL configured in the Notifications area so when people get their notifications a hyperlink can be accessed

Livelink stores them in agentconfig under the column URL.WSAPI can execute a LR .That LR can pull you that info.

Thanks for answers. The main purpose is to build URLs for accessing items within CS, so doesn't have to be a full list of front ends, just one that works
is sufficient.

I'm curious - if you're already running multiple front-end servers to handle your user load, and soap/cws is placed outside of that framework on an entirely seperate server, why would you not simply cite the single DNS name presented by your load balancer when constructing the requests? It should be invariant.

By the same token, if you were to map your stand-alone soap server into the namespace managed by the load balancer then your code should be able to remain completely oblivious to any future changes in the layout of the system.

The problem is different: Our module is a generic product so we want it to work well in all different sorts of customer environments.
During setup both of the module both the a) OTCS base URL and b) CWS base URL must be entered.
If someone installs OTCS and CWS on separate servers, how can we determine programatically that the OTCS server CWS points to, is
the same as a) above?

As Kris stated, if you use the load balanced URL, that shouldn't be an issue because the CWS configuration would be would be pointing to the load balanced URL. However, I believe that this would also depend on how the load balanced environment is set up and the purpose of the module. Can you please describe the scenario that you are encountering so that we can fully understand it?
