Set Workflow Attribute at Initiation

Hi all,

I'm writing a module that call an action which reads document category, retrieves a specific value and then start a workflow to perform some stuff.

I'm able to do all these things except setting the specific value I retrieve into a workflow attribute.

Can anyone help me please?

Hello Irene,

Just before initiating the workflow map, you can get the work packages from the map information. Loop the packages to get the workflow attribute package. Once you get to this point you should be able to iterate over the attributes and set the value for the appropriate attribute.

I know from this output that my attribute's ID il 6 (Idoneita) and I can read that it has no value set but I don't know how to walk throug V data type...

Iteration of the datastructure is what King and Praveen posted,there are also two working examples that they posted that the community members have been using for at least 14 years.One usually re-purposes what Donna posted or when you go to workflow based oscript class the instructor will give you a similar one.If you find this daunting then you should probaby have Christopher Meyers product installed.

Nobody who programs in Oscript refers to the RecArray as a the V data type

so I guess you are just trying to get this working and on your way

Sorry but I'm very new in OScript.

I try to execute Donna script with this parameters:

.SetWFlowAttrVal ( prgCtx, 'Idoneita', attrValue, work, workPkg )

where Idoneita is the name of my attribute, attrValue is a fixed string value

and

WAPIWORK work = Wsession.AllocWork()

and workPkg

Record mapInfo = $WFMain.WFMapPkg.LoadMap( prgCtx, { mapObj, version } )

Dynamic workPkg = mapInfo.WORK_PACKAGES

What I'm doing wrong?

Hello Irene,

The sample script SetWFlowAttrVal which you are referring will work for in process workflow. Anyways if you are able to get the workflow package then it is straight forward. Some code snippet (use appropriat error handling):

//get the workflow node DAPI.GetNodeByID

//set a temporary map $WFMain.WFMapPkg.SetMapTempStorage

//get the wf attribute package

Debugging Donna's Script I notice that function find my attribute and sets the correct value.

But when it arrives in this instruction:

retVal = obj.SaveWorkData( prgCtx, work, undefined, r.UserData )

it returns me this error:

A<1,?,'ApiError'=E675086344,'ErrMsg'=X<WFMAIN_ERRMSG.ErrorSavingAttributes>,'OK'=false>

Anyone can help?

I assume the event script executes as the first step to a workflow.The problem with this approach is you are basically intercrpting the work in it has not been committed.Many of us has gone through this and blogged about it

What I do is

When I develop I will put a Initiator step right afte start , and run the code that you are developing in Step Exit codition of that
Using echos and debug soemhow test and make sure the code works.This method allows you to actually get workid,subworkid inserted.
In my blog you will find a link where the great Jeff Lang talks about how to debug eventscripts a little more efficiently,since you are starting out and perhaps this is in CSIDE probably that won't be applicable.
Once your code works simply delete the Initiator step and put it on the Start like how you want it,please make sure to read what pointers I have.
You could even put the succeding step to a IH which you can then handle by a WF agent.

That is my gut feel for that you are way early debugging into the call.

I don't have a work session related to my workid.

I only have the workID returned by StartWorkflow function

status = $WebWork.WFPkg.StartWorkflow( prgCtx, mapInfo, mapObj.pID )

A<1,?,'CustomMsg'=?,'OK'=true,'WorkID'=975546>

So, when I try to retrieve the dapinode using DapiSess, I think I use dapisess of mapObj I use to load map by ID beforse starting wf...

I tryed to create a new one but I'm not able to do so...

The workflow starts! I can see the incoming initiator step as you say and I'm able to perform action on workflow. This is not the problem.

Donna script detects and sets correctly the attribute (I see in debug mode) but, in the last instruction I get error so set don't apply.

The error I receive is WFMAIN_ERRMSG.ErrorSavingAttributes...

I don't know how to get off!

If you are debugging and seeing the error I would not debug but write out echoes .think positively that Donna's code works.If not I will look in wlock and see if it is there

Since you are a new oscripter it might be too much to ask you to go into the Obj call or look in connect logs

Is my code in that thread any better it is called updatemyworkflowattribute or something like that?

Donna code is able to change r.Userdata like I want and I'm happy of this!

I commented donna instruction SaveToWork because my work is not started yet and that was the error, I finally understand! I want to set userdata before workflow starts!

So I modified Donna's script to return only r record which contains r.Userdata changed with my data.

Now my problem is re-set this updated r.Userdata in my workPkg!

My steps are:

// Create mapObj ID where prefMapObjID is the workflow's map definition

DAPINode mapObj = DAPI.GetNodeByID(dSession, prefMapObjID)

Integer verNum = mapObj.pVersionNum
DAPIVERSION version = DAPI.GetVersion( mapObj, verNum )

// Save mapInfo of my DAPINode mapObj

Record mapInfo = $WFMain.WFMapPkg.LoadMap( prgCtx, { mapObj, version } )

// Save mapInfo workPackage

Dynamic workPkg = mapInfo.WORK_PACKAGES

// Create worksession and work

Object Wsession = prgCtx.WSession()
WAPIWORK work = Wsession.AllocWork()

// call Donna's script to return r

Record scrivi = .SetWFlowAttrVal ( prgCtx, 'Idoneita', attrValue, work, workPkg, TRUE )

Now I'm not able to save modUserData indo USERDATA of workPkg...

I'm a little bit confused using complex structure like Assoc, RecArray, etc...

I solved my problem!!

Donna's function modifies workPkg in mapInfo so workflow starts with my attribute's value.

It was so simple!

So, finally, I commented SaveToWork function and set the returned valued as workPkg array. That's all.
