Hi Forum

I am hoping someone here will be able to advise me on this .

I am trying to get a full listing of our category infromation from our system which can easily do , i have used attribute.dump browser feature and also just getting the category information from the CatRegionMap, my problem is i have quite a few categories which have multivalues in the form of popups , i cannot seem to get these to display though ...

So for instance i might have a category called department and within that i have a field called location which might list out a number of locations within the office , i can easily list out the cat name and the field but i am struggling to see how i can list out the field values when it is a popup.

we are using Oracle .

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could advise on how i might go about this .

What does the Multiline data look like? Is it a <value>, <value>, etc. or what? Is there a delimiter?

Thanks for your reply

The fields are text popups with multivalues in them , one per line.

So on the interface they appear like drop down lists, i am just having issues retrieving the dropdown list values.

What I meant by the question is how do they appear in the LLATTRDATA field: VALSTR? (possibly)

Does the data appear one long string? Is it highly parameter-ized like the extendeddata in DTREE?

Well i have had a look through the LLAttrData table i cannot see how it is tying together the LLAttrData table has an ID field which seems to be data id of objects in fileplan , the DefID which is the id of the actual category and AttrID which ties to the category fields but how i list out the field popup values

When i run the following

Select *
From CatRegionMap
Order By CatName, SetName

This returns me the category attributes seperated into the sets but i cannot get the popup list for the attribute values. Does that make sense in how i am explaining it ?

It is a common misconception that the Category Definition is stored in a table. It is not just like it say it is stored wherever your livelink admin has said content files is.

So it is a flat file and if you opened it up it will look like gibberish. If you look in this KB you will find lots of queries that say I know the dataid I want to find the file.

Substitute the dataid of a category object and you can find it.

The leaves inside that is a proprietary data structure so for non-programmers who don’t want to mess with base64encoding/decoding here’s a simpler way.

<![if !supportLists]>2. <![endif]>Take everything that looks like this<content type="base64">All the GIBBERISH IN HERE </content> without those XML tags

<![if !supportLists]>3. <![endif]>Use awebsite that provides translation of base64 to decoded text (Lots of good editors like Notepad++ knows how to decode)

<![if !supportLists]>4. <![endif]>Put what the decoded it will be human readable now you might be able to search on it based on your ‘DisplayName’

This incidentally is what attributes.dump does it reads that and puts it out as human readable because oscript has methods so does lapi and wsapi. LLATTRBLOBDATA and LLATTRDATA comes into play only if the category is applied to another object.

NB. This approach will fail if you find the file in an encrypted archive server store.However xmlexport is allowed on any object so you might be able to sue it.

I'm asking how the actual data that resides in the LLATTRDATA record looks. There's a field for integer values (KUAF or DTREE), strings, dates, etc. When a Multiline attribute is saved, what does the data physically look like. I could try to create one here, but it would take a me a bit. I'm just curious how the data is structured in the field of the record so that I can see what it might take to parse it out.

@Micahael,

I quickly created a CS10 module that extends attributes.dump to print the valid values.You can see the screen cap in here.I have included the module as well made for CS10 most probably company things might prevent you from downloading and see ing it but for what its worth it took me close to 30 mins to code and about 30 minutes to write the document for it because almost 90 % of what you want OT has coded in....

Thanks for your reply , what appu has added in his next mail will do what i want , it looks like the easiest way it to xml export all categories and just decode them in notepad ++

have tried on one and it works i just need to clean up the output a little .
