Custom page performance issue

Hi .

This is related to the performance issue that I am facing during the load of an HTML page which is a part of the custom module.

When the link to this HTML page is accessed, it opens within a second in the first attempt. When we try to reload the page, it is giving a heavy performance issue (time of load of page varies from 1 min - 30 mins)

What this link does ?

It calls the request handler containing select, insert and update queries as per requirement. And the results are displayed in an HTML page.

Can anyone let know what can be the possible reason behind such performance variation.

I don't think it's possible to answer this question without knowing more about the custom module and this particular request handler. Can you provide more details?

Is it when you refresh the page (i.e., with the browser refresh button) or when you click a link that reloads the page that this happens?

When we close the opened window, and click on the link and try to open the same window, this performance issue comes up.

Hi All ,

Just to add on .

When we open a fresh window of the browser and clicks on a link it opens in a new window which opens fine .Once you close this new window and try to hit the link again it will not open up and keeps on processing which is starnge .

If you try to clear the session by deleting the cookies etc and try to open everything fresh , it might open again or sometimes might not open .

One more point to be notes is when we try to run the underlying select query directly on a database using oracle client , it fetches results in no time no matter how many times you run the query .

Does this indicate that there is a issue with the code , IE (cookies or anything else ) . The real question is how to hit the right point to find the real cause of this .

Also this happens with the update on amy page from the interface . Kindly advice and let us kno if you require any further information on this .

What version of Content Server? What version of Oracle? In my experience most of the time performance issues are DB related so the first thing I would do is turn on CS connect logs and look thru them for high timings. Below is an example log entry showing the execution of some query (in this case the query only took 3 milliseconds but you get the idea...you can just search for 'Execute' and find out if any are long running).

I suggest you use Fiddler and the connect logs to determine what request is send and how the database reacts.

I expects that the second time the wrong request is ned, maybe even to the wrong application.

People who are replying is a who is who on the expert list ( Hans S,John S and Chris M ) .I would also do these things

Is a Loadbalancer involved if so will it roundrobin or will it stay sticky to the browser it started?If you ask OT support and see if CookieKey needs to be set or OTHOME to be the same it may bring them back some results.here's where Hans's suggestion of fiddler helps
Can you get the llisapi.dll script hardcoded rather than livelink.exe?why do you even need to have the executable in code because oscript knows that from the request record won't it?
your delete and insert is called immediately without its own transaction.In normal course oracle should not care but if you have some kind of session monitor you could try seeing if the delete is waiting and insert that kind.Your Update Tracker function for e.g.Your function looks correct to me but maybe Chris will comment better on that because I know very little on that.
John mentioned that newer code base is always doing DB stuff what if the slowness is coincidence where the DB is streched thin already?How many OT threads do you have in each instance they will all create connections to the database so start at 8 and go in steps like 12,14 that kind.Only each customer can figure this out so everything is guidelines.
