Setting Attribute to existing category in Livelink

Hello, I have a Business need to upload documents in Livelink and assign an attribute value to it. How could this be accomplished preferably in single event if possible. We are still using LAPI jar file in Livelink 9.7.1 (with understanding that it will be depracated with Version 10 and later.)

Looking for a solution to accomplish this using LAPI jar file as well as webservice.

LAPI client code *will* work until OT removes the server side activity of it.971 ships with webservices and you will find more support to your questions like this as the SOAP based API or REST based API is more suitable for your work. I don't see any LAPI activity for 2 years although sometimes there is a programmer who might get into a bind .But for you it should be a cakewalk because lots of examples exist as well as if you have some patience to work with the livelink you are programming against

Not sure what you mean by a single event.The API of livelink(or for any other matter other DMS's) has its own sort of business rules.As a programmer you are supposed to either use a series of discrete calls to the software to accomplish the same.(I always tell people API's are the same thing as one would do in the GUI).It remains true in LAPI and webservices.EASYLAPI was pioneered by Christopher Meyer to help facilitate easier programming avenues into LAPI .Another package called SLAPI was also prevalent at some time.

I read and set my objects's category like this   in SOAP(CWS) .There is an awesome sample written by Chris Webster of OT in the CWS forum that is much compact code.I write mine so that I can understand it a little easier.Chris's code might be what you are looking for.
