what's the difference between an ELS application and content server folder

hi guys ,

this question might be a liite stupid , but indeed it's confusing for me

they have different terms (e.g. items in LES,  documents in content server)  , different webservices .  however they look and feel  exacly the same way in content server . 

ELS volume still , looks like a folder in content server . they both have permision,  category, audit records. 

anyone can explain the difference between them ?

Hi Luke,

 

Enterprise Library applications have their own Enterprise Library volumes.

These volumes are a means to provide different buckets to different applications. Via getRootFolder EL SOAP call a client application can query for its dedicated root folder.

As such they’re similar (not same) to the Enterprise Workspace and Personal Workspaces.

Main restriction: in the Content Server Web UI the EL volumes can be navigated to only via the Admin pages, thus nor mal users cannot navigate there but just access them via a direct URL.

 

So in most cases a dedicated folder in the Enterprise Workspace is the more suitable choice. Drawback: the client application needs to get told, which folder it should use.
