Override Oscript code while specific attribute is updated on node

Hi Team,

I have a need to make an entry in custom table when specific attribute of specifc category(configured on custom admin section) is updated. Please suggest best way to get through it.

I am planning to override "_SubclassExecutePost" script of "AttrEditValue2" web action object in $WebAttribute Ospace, as I can see all the new and old attributes value can be tracked in this script.

Please suggest if this is the right way to get through the problem solution.

OpenText has been kind enough to give developers various hooks into the system to run custom code wherever necessary called callbacks avoiding the necessity to touch core OSpaces unless really required.

From the looks of your requirement, you should orphan $LLIApiRoot à NodeCallbacks into your module and modify the CBCategoriesUpdatePost script and write your custom code there without the need to actually override the core OSpace. You will receive all the relevant information inside this script for your checks and balances.

But what I can see is "CBCategoriesUpdatePost" CB script in $LLIAPI:NodeCallbacks:CategoryMetadata object is not getting called though "CBCategoriesUpdatePre" is getting called before category update. Could you please help me to understand why "CBCategoriesUpdatePost" is not getting called?

You need to

<![if !supportLists]>2. <![endif]>Create a new child from this orphaned object, name it as you like.

<![if !supportLists]>3. <![endif]>Now set the fEnabled feature toTRUE and fSubTypes to {144} (for additional information, you can go through theDocumentation feature of this object.)

<![if !supportLists]>4. <![endif]>Go ahead and write your code inside theCBCategoriesUpdatePost script of the orphan.

<![if !supportLists]>5. <![endif]>Build your OSpace and restart builder/Oclipse.

You should be able to set a breakpoint and get the hit on the script when a document gets updated.

It worked for me with other workaround, I have overriden $LLIAPI.LLIAPIRoot:NodeCallbacks:CategoryMetadata's "CBCategoriesUpdatePost" script in my module and restaring the builder worked for me. It started executing my overriden callback script along with 3 other "CRCategoriesUpdatePost" script from: $LLIAPI.LLIAPIRoot:NodeCallbacks:SystemColumn:Modifier; $LLIAPI.LLIAPIRoot:NodeCallbacks:SystemFacets:DateModified; $LLIAPI.LLIAPIRoot:NodeCallbacks:Modifier.

I strongly advise you to NOT use the CategoryMetadata object as this is incorrect because this object is unlike any other orphaned object that is created and registered within the system. You are currentlyoverriding the core CategoryMetadata callback request required for the creation and generation of facets/columns in CS. The right approach is the one the I have outlined in my previous response.

The way you are approaching is actually "Overriding" OpenText code whereas Pramod is saying "Hook into the Process".So if OT changes the $LLIAPI.LLIAPIRoot:NodeCallbacks:CategoryMetadata's "CBCategoriesUpdatePost" script for something since your code has overridden it it will not get the changes put by OT so you will have to watch every release that OT makes.As responsible developers one is supposed to play nice .Suppose you did it the other way you are sure that callback will work and it is your code.Regardless custom code will have to be re-evaluated when major releases, patches if you do do it on the other object then I would leave lots of indication to oncoming devlopers maintaining the code so as the Grail Knight said "But choose wisely, for while the true Grail will bring you life, the false Grail will take it from you."

Thanks a lot!! Pramod and Aapu, for giving me the complete understanding. Now I understood the complete difference between overriding the CB and placing a new hook. It seems what Pramod suggested is the best workaround as it will execute my CB additional all CB that was getting called by default. The suggested way exactly suites my requirement.
