External users and license

Dear All,

We are about to develop a portal for external suppliers. Within that portal we must expose documents that are stored in our internal Content Server instance. We are going to use WebServices to offer standard documents management capilities (Reserve, Add version, ...).

We'd like to see in the audit trail of documents in Content Server all actions made by the external users.

Now to come to the question: how can I create/sync external users in Content Server without using any Content Server licenses?

We'd like to reproduce what has been achived with Tempo Box with external users. I investigated OTDS but when I consolidate an external user, he becomes a normal user in Content Server.

Feel free to share any ideas.

From the Tempo Box perspective,

Tempo Box external users, even if they are accessing enterprise content, are special user types that are stored within the system. Even if an external user was ever going to see the CS login page, he/she would not be able to gain access to the system using his/her TB credentials. Therefore, external TB users never account towards a standard CS user license.

We'd like to see in the audit trail of documents in Content Server all actions made by the external users.

All audits will be seen as usual with all the documents that the external user interacts with only this time you would be seeing the email id of the external user under theUser column.

Our external users will never log into Content Server directly. They will use our Portal that will connect them toward Content Server Webservices.

How can we create these special user type the same way as in TempoBox?

In Tempo Box, the external users are created by flushing new logins through the Tempo Box’s registration page.

AFAIK, I don’t really seem to remember any specific WS endpoint exposed by the product that would help you to achieve this. Because creating external users inside CS is something that very specific modules such as Tempo, you could always look through the same code and try to mimic the functionality for your process and probably expose that as a WS endpoint from within CS for your usage.

Moreover, I’m not sure if it would be something that OT would support such a system. Might want to check that too.
