Get available categories and attribute restrictions (null, popup, min/max) etc

Hi, I want to retrieve the available categories for a given OT folder, then retrieve the attributes and restrictions for those fields. I am able to retrieve the attribute groups (categories) and for each category, iterate over the data values (attributes).  From this attribute there are values (name, key, values) but that is for that instance (the node). But what I really want is the respective attribute (StringAttribute) for that category so I can inspect it's properties (allows nulls, length, etc).

 

I tried getattributegroupdefinition method but that returns an error with null stack trace, the input argument to that method was the key from the data value (ex 4561.1.4) which I suspect is incorrect. Any help would be much appreciated!!

Here's a program I had put for public consumption in my blog  however the code source was lost .Recently somebody asked me  for it so I was able to find just the C# code.

In essence this is what you would do.

You Obtain a node that has metadata

Metadata can consist of AttributeGroups follows the GUI operation of adding categories(templates)

If you look for the length of attribute group you will get the number of categories

Then you parse each attributegroup separately

In livelink CWS exposes each attribute as core string,date and integer and it can contain a set which can consist of

more string,date and integer.different modules bring different attribute types so it may not be possible to update those

OOB.I have not tried.The standard answer OT will give is if you find an unsupported attribute type you can pay OT to develop,2 you can create the extension yourself or 3 wait for an enhancement request.Now with RESTAPI also there perhaps you will find that OT may do some in REST as well.

So if you are after the master template definition you can do it but regardless the node's metadata can be interrogated

for the same as well

I wrote my sample by looking at Jason Smith,Scott Grasley et al as well as recently Chris Webster replied with some awesome

code that a guy called Kris Boutilier posted.Category data structures aren't the easiest but in most cases if one understand show livelink builds and returns the values it might be easy.I think you are aiming for a generic tool type code and definitely it is possible. I tried to restrict had coding as much as possible.Recently for a production code I used Chris Webster's critique to write an update routine in C# as he had done that in java and I find they are almost interchangeable.Great algorithm

You have to be careful and you have to type test each item  you are iterating for null as well as the datatype s somwhere in my code you will see me doing some huge lines.Also I am looking at the first value as LL entertains what is called a MVA so it can have a list of values.....
