Retrieving role groups in projects

Hi all,

I want to update the permissions of an object within a project, for example the permissions of the member role.

I can update these permissions using the UpdateNodeRight method, but how do I know which rightid belongs to for example the member role/group?

I tried to use the MemberSerivce.GetMemberByID function to retrieve the name, but this results in an error "Member type not valid". Anyone a suggestion how to do this?

Does using Collaboration Service give you what you need? OT treat Projects,Discussions,Tasks etc as Collaborative Objects and has a separate WSDL for that.

I am able to get everything about a Project by doing code like this.

GetNodePath.CollaborationService.ProjectInfo app1=clbs.GetProject(ref clbsOTAuth, 2172586);

GetNodePath.CollaborationService.ProjectParticipants app2= clbs.GetParticipants(ref clbsOTAuth, 2172586);

it has a UpdateProjectParticipants that may work I did not test but I see a possibility

The problem with the CollaborationService is that as far as I see it only offers functions to update participants. So adding a user or group to for example a member role is possible using the UpdateParticipants functions. However I am not able to determine the id of the member group which I need to update the permissions of this group on a specific node inside a project.

I am not sure I understand what you are planning but if you do a call like this in C# or Java

GetNodePath.CollaborationService.ProjectParticipants app2= clbs.GetParticipants(ref clbsOTAuth, 2172586);

then you will get a structure that contains the Participants like(coordinators,members,Guest)

Now if I open up the Coordinators class I will get a User or Group.

Typically these roles trickle down to sub objects and you don't change those.But it looks like your or your org is

basically using a folder inside a project sub type as a regular folder which defeats the project purpose so theoretically

a Guest user at the project can be made to delete items in a folder
