Any Java Bridge (javasdk) documentation?

I've looked at the JavaObject package documentation, but it has some links to missing documentation, such as for the OScriptObject (linking to a missing "cs10/builder/documentation/javasdk/api/com/opentext/livelink/oml/OScriptObject.html" file), or OPeer (linking to missing "cs10/builder/documentation/javasdk/api/com/opentext/livelink/oml/OPeer.html").

Is this "javasdk" an optional installable component apart from Builder that I'm missing, or is the Java support documentation in general broken?

is the aim to write Oscript to talk to Java class files or the other way around?

At one point there used to be possible to write java code and make it like oscript.

They used to call that Java Modules.

The 'My Home' Request handler is a vestige of that.I think I heard that with CS16 they are pulling out that

approach.

I have actually done Oscript ->Java which is what people call the bridge.

I have also heard Hugh Ferguson a senior programmer say that it is possible to write java and make livelink do stuff however

I have not had the need for it so did not pursue that.

Both actually. I've already written Java classes to be used from within OScript (to call SOAP web services, which is just one of the big OScript gaps), so OScript --> Java is fine. But I'm also interested in the other direction, esp calling back into OScript on certain Java events. Was playing with the thought of starting a Java WebSocket server at module startup to provide a real time two-way data pipe between a module and its various web pages. This particular use case involves real time debugging info being sent to the browser (such as Echo() calls from various functions, or more explicit detailed logging), which I found preferable to polling a request handler based web service. There is of course always more than one way to go about a problem, but I wanted more information about the Java approach. How to call back into OScript, threading considerations, etc.

Sorry no idea about the reverse .AFAIK one could use the Socket() method to call a web service. It is very error prone because of thread safety et al.Had to wrap calls in a Mutex() .I had to use that in a place that would not allow java.

I heard may name called Like most others, my focus has been on Oscript calling Java rather than having a java service directly call Oscript. I think that although it's hypothetically possible, the use case would be Oscript calls a java function, and within that context, the Java function may be able to invoke an Oscript. Up until now, I have never had a need to do such a thing - the closest being I open a socket in Java and read from it in Oscript.

The direction of Content Server from a developer's POV appears more and more like the American settlers "circling the wagons" i.e. making sure that the Oscript layer is less and less exposed. IF you had to write real-time back to CS from a Java server in reaction to events, I would probably go a longer route around and write a Web Service or REST stub in CS with any Oscript you wanted called. More and more, the only route into CS is via the HTTP front door.

And BTW I too lament the lack of a decent WS client in Oscript. Supposedly they have one in CS16 but for limited use (i.e. it's the new way of talking to Archive Server - I guess they've moving away from ArchiveLink which is really REST a la 1997).

Well the OScript socket support is useless for anything but the the most trivial use cases, esp when using it for HTTP. And even using Java classes limits you to synchronous calls without support for callbacks into OScript. But since CS16 seems to be going all Web 2.0 it would be awesome if some of the newer technologies were supported natively in OScript, such as WebSocket and proper WS client support. REST support is fine and welcome, but sometimes outbound async is what's needed.

Hi Paul,

I did write something some years back using C# and was just playing around. But that called a custom module's (I wrote) request handler and received an html response. I was merely playing around at the time for a POC since there was no time to learn about CWS. So, if you can call a URL, which I did, and get over authentication issues, which means you would have to pass the information about usernames and passwords in the request somehow, I think it is possible.

You may have to write a proxy or two, maybe a small proxy module in OScript because you may not want. I ran into authentication issues though when the code was run from a client machine. Something that can be overcome. However, that was about 4 years back and there has been a lot of changes to CS since then.

If you have CS10 and Builder then look at the documentation titled "Calling OScript from Java" found at /builder/documentation/packages/jo.html. This will give you the basics for making calls back into OScript from Java (assuming Java was invoked from JavaObject.InvokeMethod or JavaObject.InvokeStaticMethod).

Anyone know where the equivalent to Builder documentation is found in CS10.5+?
