The CWS example code snippets show how to assign a category to an object, including a mutlivalue attribute with multiple values.

Is there any documentation outlining how to use CWS to apply category data for attribute sets and the following scenario?

I have a category with an attribute set.  Within the attribute set I have 2 (or more attributes) and each of these attributes supports multivalues.  In turn, the attribute set itself has multivalues.

Does CWS support retrieving and updating category information following that model?

Hi David,

Yes CWS supports multi-valued attributes, including sets having multiple rows containing multi-valued attributes. 

In the JavaDoc for the class DataValue you'll see it is subclassed by PrimitiveValue -- strings, dates, integers, etc. -- but also by TableValues.  These are sets. It helps to map the names used in the API to the constructs seen by end-users: DataValue == attribute, TableValue == set, AttributeGroup == category, RowValue == row, etc. And of course there really isn't anything special about being multi-valued: all attributes are multi-valued, some are just defined to have a maximum size of 1.

Popping open a Java/C# debugger to inspect a Metadata object as retrieved from the system will show the nesting of arrays of these types. It's modelling the category attributes structure that you'll manipulate in your program.
