How to tell whether Content Server found Java path

Hi,

I'm getting a failure in a Java method where it says that it cannot find the class specified. I've placed my jar both in my module ojlib and the core ojlib and restarted after each attempt. I suspect that it's the binary itself is compiled to too high a version for CS 10.0 which I think is limited to JDK 6, but I'd like to know for sure.

If anyone is out there, can someone confirm whether Java 8 is supported in CS 16? It would be nice to build my JAR file with a Java 8 compiler instead of Java 7.

CS 16 and recent updates of CS 10.5 use Java 8. The specific supported updates of the JREs are documented in the release notes.

Hi Hugh,

CS 16.0.1 and up have support for Java 8. The bundled installation will use it by default. It’s a separate download if you’re upgrading from 16.0.0 to one of the newer ones. Per release notes it’s Java 8 Update 77 for 16.0.1 and 16.0.2. IIRC it’ll be Update 122 for the impending 16.0.3 release.

Hi Hugh,

Note that later verisons of Java can build class files that earlier JVM's can load. This is typically what makes such jar files "missing". The java compiler javac has a "-target" option for this; it is also available as a project setting in IDE's.

So in general you'll want to set your compiler target to match the JVM version that is provided with a given Content Server. In particular youmay be able to deploy Java8 code with CS10. (Note that you have to be careful to not call anything in the standard Java library that is "from the future". :-)

Since no one answered, I will. It appears that at least with the CS 10.0 version, that a java function built with too high a version of Java (i.e. 7 or 8) will produce the exact same error as a missing jar file. I found this out when I deployed the same module in a CS 16 environment where the function executed without error.If anyone is out there, can someone confirm whether Java 8 is supported in CS 16? My jar is compiled using Java7 (and jarred with the same). The version we have is CS16.0.0.950 which I suspect doesn't support Java 8. I would have used Java 6 to be backwardly compatible with CS 10.0 except I need to use the java.nio package which is not supported in Java 6.
