SmartUI on 16.0.3-Default Action to Open with EC on Desktop and not download

Hello,

I’m searching for a workaround/patch to have Open with Office Editor as a default action on SmartUI (the same action as from the Open link on the classical UI)

SmartUI on desktop => Default action / click on Icon or document name = Open with EC (?func=Edit.Edit&ReadOnly=true)

Smart UI on tablet => Default action = Download (change nothing, already the case)

I’m able with a patch to make the difference between the action on tablet and the action on Desktop browser, but I’m not able to change the Smart UI default action to Open with EC.(Default means click on document or the icon)

This small change/customer request it is somehow coherent with the existing Edit on SmartUI (we are passing by Enterprise Connect Edit on Smart UI with the Edit action)

Please note Content Viewer was not accepted as a solution (customer want original files, not a rendering solution as Brava Content Vewer)

Hi Robert,

there is a working sample for changing the default open action for documents (it is samples/commands/open.brava). You could just rewrite the sample to your needs. The most important part is the changed getUrlQueryParameters method, like this:

I got this working on Chrome with the Office edit plugin (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/office-editing-for-docs-s/gbkeegbaiigmenfmjfclcdgdpimamgkj)

Find attached a working sample, which opens Office documents in a browser edit plugin (see previous answer). You have to expand the zip in the samples folder of the SDK.

When extending or modifying Smart UI, you do not patch. You look for an extension point, which you can register you cuustom module for and override the OOTB functionality by declaring your extensioun with a higher priority.

In this case, you could try overriding the default action (hyperlink on the document name), which is "Open" for documents, by the "Edit" action from the WebEdit module. First, you register a module with default action declarations to the "csui/utils/defaultactionitems" extension point:

src/myprefix-extensions.json:

Then you populate the module with a declaration overriding the default action for the document (subtype 144):

However, you want to do it only for MS Office documents. Other MIME types are not supported by WebEdit. Instead of overriding any document, let us restrict document MIME types:

Also, you want to have the MS Office documents edited only on desktop and let the default document opening take place on tablets. Let us write the condition of the default action as a custom function:

I tried to test the idea described in this post but run into a newbie issue. The file open.to.edit.for.office.js is not going to be compiled and copied to out-release folder when I run 'grunt'. I Have to put it in the bundles folder for it to be compiled and released. Then I have to move it back to up level folder during deployment. Am I missing something obvious here?
