cs16 Livereports

Hi All,

I would like to write a live report that will enable us to perform search against an external database table. The live report may contain multiple tabs displaying the search results.

I know the Live reports allow you to run queries against the external database as well but I want to know if I can build a report something very similar to search form where user can input data and get the results in multiple tabs. User can also view the results in pie/bar charts which is OOTB available in livereports. Thanks

A LR follows a simple form submission so a look through Fiddler is advised.The parameters to a LR are also just name value pairs.We used to put a customview and have its submission sent to

func=ll&objId=2035&objAction=RunReport&inputlabel='blah' .Obviously if you have WR then you don't need to build the form yourself it builds them for you.I don't fully understand the tabs question

Do search in this forum for all the yester years forms/customviews/appearances code that people contributed that shows you how to call a LR using your own form.It is easier than you think.

Mostly people in the age of WR will not create their own forms because the WR has so many useful ways to get productive in a shorter time.

I assume from your question that the data you need to access resides in a database that is NOT your Content Server database.

There are a few ways to do this, but if you want to use the OOTB LiveReport controls, then your best bet is to talk to your DBA and get them to present the information you need from the other database as a linked view(s) inside the CS database and then you can use standard Live Reports to query and report on them.

Otherwise you would need to delve into Live Reports code to work out how to add additional database connections to allow you to connect to another datasource.

As Appu mentioned, if you have WebReports you may be able to use that to process your content - exported as a file is likely to be the easiest - but thats still more complex than the above.
