Setting up values for Attributes which are part of attribute set

Hi,

Does anyone work on setting up values for Attributes which are part of attribute set using Document Management web services SetNodeMetadata method or some other methods successfully? If so please share some code snippets. I also need some thoughts on setting up values in the Multiline Text field.

The programming community of Livelink is livid with examples /snippets /use cases of almost any standard programming that one needs to perform.In the CWS forum is a category example they show you to create one and apply it on the node,usually one probably will only "apply" it.A "set" is exposed as rows in a kind of an excel spread sheet.It again is accessed by the standard methods as well as "set" by standard methods.

I supplement OT KB(actually a lot of others like me) with sometimes cryptic things that one finds hard to comprehend.Most of my examples will have a word document to level set the novice programmer as well as I reasonably test in my dev system.As such I am not responsible for any harm it may cause .If someone points errors I usually correct them and credit them as well.

Hi Umashanker,

I thought this tidbit may have been posted before but I can’t find it so here we go again. Like Appu mentioned, the Set attributes are laid out in the SDO a bit like rows.

For this PoC I take the lazy route and get a Node that already has the Category applied to it, change the attribute value, then update the Node. Also, in this case, the Category contains only a Set attribute which in turn contains a single Text Field attribute. For Cats with multiple atts and/or Sets with multiple atts you need to iterate through the appropriate array accordingly. There are, of course, other ways to go about this but I tried for a “lazy” approach. I don’t have a Java example but I presume it could be fairly similar except for maybe having to explicitly get/set the various pieces unlike C# that lets me get away with implicitly doing so.

What is very helpful, and what I myself did, was get to the point where I have the AttributeGroup assigned to an object, then breakpoint and examine its structure in the debugger. Then you can drill down through the various Data/Table/RowValues and see what goes where.

I have tried the same logic and I have a weird issue, I am not getting any errors while running from .Net solutions, but actual content server node is not getting updated with values passed for attributes in the attribute set. Below is my code, do you find any missing elements here or this way of updating attribute set has the limitations in terms of Content server version. We are in Content Server 10 Update 13 (version 10.0.0.2738). Please advise.

Hmm… I don’t see any version dependencies for supporting Set attributes. At least not that I can find on a quick check.

What I’d probably do is set a breakpoint on your UpdateNode call, then inspect MyNode in the debugger. Drill down through the Metadata and AttributeGroups objects into the actual metadata being passed in and make sure it’s actually got the values you wanted on the object.

Content Server thread logs (debug=2) with wantlapilogs=true can also shed some light on these things. With wantlapilogs=true every transaction will have an inargs/outargs pair. Assuming the application is sending it out, you should be able to find your metadata in the inargs line for the UpdateNode transaction. This can be handy to make sure CS is actually getting the data you think it is.
