Hi,
I have a snippet of code to upload a document to a folder, and it works fine when it's that simple.
this.CreateNode = function(nodeId, file) {
   var body = {
    type: 144,
    parent_id: nodeId,
    name: file.name
   },
   formData = new FormData();
   formData.append('body', JSON.stringify(body));
   formData.append('file', file);

   return $http({
                method: 'POST',
                url: $config.csUrl + '/otcs_162/llisapi.dll/api/v1/nodes/',
    data: formData,
    headers: {
     OTDSTicket: $auth.Ticket()
    }
            }).catch(function (err) {
                 alert("Error: " + err.data);
            });
  }

However, when the folder it is uploaded into has a category set at the folder level, it is set to inherit, and also has required attributes... this fails with a 400 error. Is there a way to set those fields as this document is getting uploaded?

You can use the following for body= on top of your document file selection.

{"Type":144,"Name":"test Document 1","parent_id":12345,"roles":{"categories":{"79119_9":"TEST","79119_21":"12345"}}}

Where 79119 represents a category object id and 9 or 21 represents attribute id.

Please note that if you use the above as a create request, the specified category (i.e. 79119) will be applied to that document object andnot inherited from the parent. If there are mandatory attributes and you don’t have them as part of the request, it will fail to create that document. In order to inherit the attributes from the same category along with this create request, I would suggest the following:

Extract the categories applied to the parent node first.
Use the extracted categories from parent as roles to this create request while modifying attribute values that is relevant to the document create request.

You can upload a document to a folder with Smart UI and inspect the network communication in the browser developer tools.

Smart UI asks the server for the form schema of all metadata types at first. For example: "GET .../api/v1/forms/nodes/create?parent_id=12345&type=144". It gets all categories and attributes and optionallly other forms like record details with empty or prefilled values including information, if some attributes are required or not. This is used to format the content of the request body for the "POST .../api/v1/nodes" request, as Riten's example shows it.
