Widget showing a simple searchbar (google like) - Solved

Hello,

I am very new into the Smart UI world, but I investigated alot at EW 2017 and in some of the demo's I could see that one widget was just the searchbar, like moving regular top right searchbar down to a widget (not removing the original one).

I was hoping it was a standard widget in the list, but it does not seems to be so.

Does anone have any info how to do such a widget, please?

Yes, the search scenario is divided between two widgets - search box and search results. Mostly they are used together, but they can be used separately too. For You can have a look at their usage on their sample pages in the CS UI SDK:

lib/src/csui/widgets/search.box/test/index.html
lib/src/csui/widgets/search.results/test/index.html

They communicate with each other using attributes and events of the search query model - you will learn more about it from the sample pages.

Hi Jesper,

maybe you have seen at EW the Custom View Search widget. It is a standard widget that allows you to display in the widget search fields that are provided by a configured custom view search.

The Custom View Search is a widget which can be connected with the search results widget instead of the simple search box. It needs a search form template, which you prepare in CS using a saved query and custom view, just like you do it for Classic UI. You can have a look at the example page in CS UI SDK:

thank you for the fast response, but I cannot see the 2 widgets as a selection in the left handside, do I need to add these manually beforehand?

If you want to use Persepctive Manager to put the widgets on a new perspective, you will find them in the "Content Server UI Widgets" group - "Custom View Search" and "Search Results". Only "Custom View Search" is really useful for this.

What I wrote about widgets in CS UI SDK was for a developer, who writes a custom page using these widgets, or wants to integrate them to other web portal.

So if i need the SDK searchbar and resultview widgets samples in the Perspective manager, this is not possible? or can you add these somehow to the content server installation etc?

might be an studid question, but I cant find the documentation for adding your wigdets to Content server!

I have used the custome view search but i would like not to do a specific search upfront for the user, but give them the searchbar in the middle of the screen - so they can focus on making a fast search when they needed it.

This is exactly what i would like to use, but i would like to have them available in the Perspective manager, which I view at EW2017.

I have downloaded and made the samples work from the SDK, but I cant find informatin on how to upload/add the widgets to Content Server?

Do you know where to go, please?

The search box widget from the top navigation bar and the search results widget from the search perspective are not available in the Perspective Manager. They are available only to developers, who can create custom search pages with them. The default search capabilities in Smart UI are provided by a built-in integration of these widgets to the top navigation header and via the custom view search tile. These widgets do not work on landing pages and node perspectives, which are the only perspectives,, that can be created in the Perspective Manager. That is why it does not make sense to offer these widgets to Perspective Manager users.

I recommend you using the custom view search widget, because it works out-of-the-box. Creating a special search page will need you to develop a Smart UI extension using Smart UI SDK.

Making a special search page is possible:

Either by creating an alternative Smart UI entry page - ".../drawing-search", for example.
Or by creating a custom perspective plugin - ".../app/drawing-search", for example.

There is no SDK example for the former. The latter means:

Creating a perspective context plugin for the application scope "drawing-search".
Creating a perspective router plugin to synchronize the URL with context changes.
Creating a perspective configuration with a full-page widget "customer/widgets/drawing/search" to be loaded by the perspective context plugin.
Creating a full-page widget wrapping the search box in the middle and providing some extra attributes to the search terms entered by the end-user.

There is an example of a custom perspective in the Greetings project in CS UI SDK: src/perspective.context.plugins and src/perspective.context.plugins, which demonstrates ".../app/greetings" and ".../app/greetings/john".
