Hi,

We have a requirment to enforce mandatory category attributes on folder creation.

As I understood the CS policy is to enforce mandatory attributes population only when adding files to a categorized folder.

We would like to prevent user to complete folder creation, unless he populate the mandatory fields (same as in file creation).

Is there some configurable way to achieve this or should I create a custom module?

If oscript customization is required (we want a solution for classic and smart UI),

please instruct we what moduleqfunction to overide.

Shalom Yaron. If you want it system-wide, then simply go to the Admin.Index pages, System Administration --> Configure Attribute Value Requirements.

In there you can select what objects a "required" attribute is truly required for.

Hi Yaron,

This is configurable and does not require any customization. See the “Configure Attribute Value Requirements” entry under System Administration. Have the checkbox forFolder enabled and your system will then have the behavior you’re looking for.

I tried your suggestion, it works on all folders on CS.

We need it to be applied on specific folders (This part of reqirment was not brought to my attention earlier..).

So it brings me back to the original question: What is the best way to implement this?

I propose that you implement your own item type that is derived from folder and call it ‘folder with required attributes’. For your own folder you can then configure that the attributes are required.

Hi Aaron,

My Thought..

That would be like you will be orphaning Folder and then its LLNode & WebNode similar to examples like "Addressbook","Contacts" etc.If you do it that way then your node will have a new subtype (Check in the Oscript registry to see what is a good customer subtype,search that term and you will find it).

Now if you go that route select * from DTree where SubType=0 will be Folders and select * from DTree where SubType=99999999(or whatever you put there) will be your folder subtypes,you would click its attrtype to required and it will enforce mandatoriness.

Now do you you want additional functionalitty like folders like on the left a Facet line up? would that work simply by doing this,I wouldn't know until I coded.

I have created code that will not show mandatoriness on a document addition if the folder already contained it,it was a simple weblingo javascript check.So I would see if you can on the fly change the attribute requirement to want or don't want on your business condition.I think maintainable and good design of custom code is going to be key here.

Yes, it requires OScript coding, just like any other solution to your problem.

In addition to what Appu wrote you also need to orphan the xmlnode and csnode.

You may be able to do something in the web interface by using an ActiveView that overrides the Add Item page to programmatically require certain fields to be filled in.Note that this would not work through, say, the Enterprise Connect interface.Cheers,Ben

If multiple livelink instances are involved the?func=attr.requiredvalue is a instance level setting perhaps your special folder people can work in a unique server and vice versa?

Hi Appu – I’m reading this reply now looking for solution I need in category screen; I also need to enforce category attribute field being populated, or make field read-only. The trick is that the only ActiveView template “categories_tab” does not allow edit; so how can you customize this template and still be able to enter data?
