Brand new Eclipse Oxygen wont recognize the CSIDE Plugin

For a while now we have been copying exisitng Eclipse installations to new VMs to run CSIDE as required, but I figured it was time to download the latest Eclipse and get it set up so we have a new base to copy from.

I downloaded the latest Eclipse Oxygen2 for Java Devs edition, and the latest CSIDE plugin, com.opentext.cside_16.2.3.107, however Eclipse behaves like it doesnt see the plugin when I try to create an OScript project. The list of types doesn include Oscript at all. Ive tried multiple restarts of Eclipse, with both CSIDE jar files in the plugins folder, but Eclipse doesnt see it.

I tried it with a slightly older plugin from a working setup, com.opentext.cside_16.0.0.1119, and no dice.

Eric - I don't have an environment handy to confirm, but I am 90+% that I've had OClipse working with Oxygen. I think from memory I needed to place the OClipse JAR in Oxygen's "dropin" directory, not the plugin directory.....in fact I think that may have been case on Eclipse Neon also.....

Hi Eric,

David's statement is correct. The latest CS SDK does support Eclipse Oxygen and it needs now to be placed inside the Eclipse dropins folder. (Eclipse has change the folder from plugins to dropins a few releases ago).

You can find more details in the Content Server SDK documentation, section "Content Server IDE Plug-in for Eclipse Quick Start Guide" (See below)

Installing the Plug-In

The minimum supported Eclipse version is Mars. Once you have downloaded and installed Eclipse (either the zipped or the installer version), copy the com.opentext.cside jar file into the "dropins" folder (used to be the "plugins" folder) in the Eclipse installation directory, and then restart Eclipse"

Also, the latest Release Notes describes the new support for Eclipse Oxygen!

I am glad that you are using the latest version of our plugin, remember that it is compatible with Content Server 10.5+ and 16+.

Ah, I was using an older offline copy of the CSIDE quick start guide which didnt have those changes about the drop in folder.

BTW the latest plugin works with Luna, even though the minimum official supported version is Mars.

I am glad that it solved your problem.

You are correct, it will probably work (and we used to support Luna before), but since it is old (2014) and there are a few new releases already, we prefer to focus on latest versions for consistence and product quality.
