What does this mean - The OScriptVM is currently suspended. Build cannot be performed.

Hi, 

  I have been getting this message a lot during my latest CSIDE project using the latest jar, and CS 16.2.3:

The OScriptVM is currently suspended. Build cannot be performed.

When I get it, any feature or script I add to my object never gets compiled.  Also, Content Server running single threaded through builder stops working. The only way out is to restart Eclipse. When I do that, everything works as before, but it's pretty darned annoying.

Is this a known issue? Is there a root cause I should be looking for in my code?

Hi Hugh,

as you may know building an OScript Project requires the OScriptVM process to run. Parsing the source code and assembling the .oll file is done with RMI calls into the OScriptVM process. At the same time the OScriptVM process also represents the Content Server in Debug Mode. The message you get is issued when this debugger is "suspended"; this is the case when it is stopped at a breakpoint, when you are stepping through code, or when the Content Server encounters a runtime error (or script error). When the debugger is suspended it means that OScriptVM is not available to perform any other task - including building your project. The builder checks on the OScriptVM debug status and if it finds the debugger is suspended the message is issued. The message has been introduced with one of last plugin updates, I believe it was 16.2.1.

What can you do?

• whenever OScriptVM suspends with a runtime error / script error: remember to resume the process (F8 or green play button in tool bar). Runtime / script errors are normally indicated with a message box
• if you get the message: instead of restarting Eclipse completely you can try to restart just the OScriptVM (via module explorer); after that perform a full build of your project by calling "Clean" in the project menu.
• consider switching off "Automatic Builds" in the Project menu. If you have automatic builds active remember: never edit/save a source file while your debugging your code, saving triggers an automatic build and since you are debugging you run directly into this error message.

What is really annoying is that you cannot build your project when the OScriptVM is not running...
