Modulel Import failure where object names have brackets or spaces

Hi All,

We are attempting to upgrade an existing OTGS-supplied custom module and we are getting the following error while trying to import a module (after the standard "Building workspace has encountered a problem" popup)

Error against:
public object Patched_OTEMail_WebNode_EmailFolder inherits OTEMAIL::WebNode (Folder)::WebNode Email Folder

Error detail: "syntax error, unexpected "(", expecting NEWLINE or ";" Expecting Valid Identifier"

This appears to be linked to either spaces or brackets (it also appeared against another object with spaces).

We attempted to follow the steps suggested by John in the following KC post, by importing OTEmail first, and also trying to recreate the import inherits string. Neither was successful.

Import of OTEmail (10_5_2) also failed with similar errors. We are using Eclipse Mars2 and CSide 16.2.4.184.(CS10.5 03-2018 patch).

Any thoughts on how to resolve this issue?

Didn't John also mention that sometimes it may be necessary to follow the code in the native tool,if it is old code then one would use Builder,export it as a ascii / dmp file.You can then look at if the module inheritance can be understood.Looking in builder visually would be more easier.I found that very useful converting code form 9.7 systems to 10.5

97->10.5 would be in my mind the most problematic once you have it in 10 a lot of old deprecated entries should have gone.

Sometimes seeking help of experienced OT people(with or without money ) may resolve simple things faster.

Issue appears to be the space and brackets in the INHERITS section, but as this is inheriting from an OT module - OTEmail = not sure what can be done without OT intervention.

I think the old 971/10 module Devs might have went to the OTEmail

Then its WebNode Gotten down to the Folder inside the parent(in 971/10)

and Orphaned the WebNode Email Folder Object called it Patched_OTEMail_WebNode_EmailFolder using the

write a one time patch method.

Maybe Builder or old code may not care for those differences and Java based things would depend on

windows allowable file name chars so that it can represent it in its packaging.Was not there a workaround of putting things like double quotes so that it can be done something like this

"WebNode (Folder)"

I have seen many non compliant Object names take the shape like that?

These are my go to guys when I am on a bind Greg Griffiths,John Simon,Chris Meyer,Ossie More,Hugh Ferguson,Donna Nalls,Chris Webster ,Kyle Swidrowich ,David Templeton... a long list of good helpful people in forums ? Plausible?

If I were doing this I would just create a shell properly using the correct inheritance and put the old code back...

Most imports are straight forward but every once in a while... I found another (easier) way to figure it out. On the Module explorer side, orphan whatever it is you are trying to import into one of your modules. Then on the Oscript explorer side, import that OLL into a temporary space. Then you can see what it should look like (and delete the imported code if you want to clean it all up). For example:

public object #'WebNode Email Folder orphan'# inherits OTEMAIL::WebNode_Folder_::#'WebNode Email Folder'#
