News item in perspective manager

Hi Jenna,

I don't think news channels are implemented for the Smart UI yet. Some general ideas for this are:

1) If you upgrade to 16.2.4 there is a new HTML Tile as part of the core product which is similar to a classic custom view but is based on the content of a wiki node. You could write your news stories as wikis and show them on the home page using this new tile.

2) If you have WebReports licenses you could use an HTML WebReport to display the news stories using custom HTML/CSS. WebReports supports a news channel as a data source so you should be able to get the existing news data fairly easily and then add some markup to display it on the home page.

3) If you have WebReports there is also the Widget Carousel which allows you to show multiple news stories on different slides of a carousel. These slides could use the HTML WebReport widget to surface either news or wiki content.

Hi Andy,

You should be able to just use the GETTEXT sub-tag for that. e.g.

[LL_REPTAG_$MyWikiPage GETTEXT /]

Note: $MyWikiPage is defined as a constant which points to the wiki node in the above sample.

Appreciate your help for this newbie, LOL.

So it does return the html correctly - and some is displayed correctly (external links) - but it does strip a lot of the formatting around headers, fonts, etc.

Any ideas on how to get it looking like more uniform with the Smart UI?

The best widget for showing a wiki page content is HTML Tile. It shows, what you see, when you edit a wiki page. (Wiki Tile would have been a better name...) You will find it in Perspective Manager.

So is the problem that your wiki includes specific fonts and other styles that don't show in the Smart UI? Or is it that the styles are showing but it conflicts with the Smart UI design elsewhere on the page? Do you have a screenshot or source example to show?

I've experimented with the HTML Tile, and it doesn't meet my needs. All I want it to do is to retrieve the HTML from a Wiki page and display it in a tile on a perspective. I have 3 different perspectives with the tile. As soon as its displayed in an HTML tile, a duplicate wiki page is created in my wiki. The editor / maintainer of the wiki now has 2 pages to maintain. I'm looking for the tile to present static content from a Wiki in multiple perspectives, but keep the maintenance in the Wiki object. The HTML tile seems to be built for people that want to display HTML content tied to one particular pespective, and allow editing from the perspective itself, and throw the result in a Wiki.

That's correct. I have text under the 'heading 1', 'heading 2', etc styles, etc and all that formatting is stripped off when the webreport displays in the tile. It's weird. Links, pictures, etc are left be.

Ok. So the problem is that the CSS that applies the styles in the Smart UI is dependent on the wiki content being wrapped in a certain div structure with certain classes applied. Ferda is right that the only long term reliable way of displaying the wiki content in the Smart UI at the moment is using the default wiki node view or the HTML Tile. You could log a feature request to have the HTML WebReport widget support wrapping wiki content so we could look at applying the correct classes automatically when configured to do so.

In the mean time, I did get it to work by manually applying the div structure in the WebReport source. This seems to work pretty well at the moment:

The warning here is that it may not catch all styles and there is also the risk that if the DOM and class structure changes in future then this may break the appearance of wikis loaded in this way.

The alternative is that you put some custom CSS in the HTML WebReport to style things in a consistent way e.g. setting font sizes for h1/h2/h3 etc for just the content in your tile.
