What's new in CWS 16.x compare to CWS 10.5

We are migrating 25 clients from 10.5 to 16.2.2 and some are doing integration with CWS and they would like to know what are the diffrence between 10.5 and 16.2 so they can prepare their appplication to migrate. I look the KC and I have not found any good resume. Anyone has something?

Hi Guy,

One big thing, is the introduction of ExternalAtts to the node object, to track things like the date created/modified, the account it came from, etc.

Any explicit nodes you've defined, may need a brief bit of modification.

As for how this works, it's basically following the same principles as metadata, a la category attributes.

Hi Guy,

Personally can’t think of any particularly huge updates to functionality… there was an SDO update for categories to support “External Attributes” which was added in 16.2 to provide a way to preserve original file information. Some supporting samples/explanations were added to the documentation here:

If you have code that gets/sets/updates cats and atts then you might need to slightly adjust those pieces to accommodate. Some might not need updating at all. Hard to say without getting into specifics.

Maybe others out there can think of something else that I’m not remembering.

A ex-colleague told me they had to change some ID that was int32 to long in64. But they are running 10.0 going to 16.2.

anyone hit such issue?

Hi Guy,

Yes, actually, I did see in a case, where, someone with a LL 9.7.1 application (EWS, the old version of CWS, but basically the same), had to recompile a bunch of code because we made the jump (during CS 10.0's lifecycle) from integers to longs, for most things, like NodeIDs and so forth.

A customer I worked with just searched their entire project for each integer, and saw which ones were provided to our methods, and made a change, after consulting the API guide.
