Custom View Search and Search Results widgets

Hello all,

We are on 16.2.5, and I've been playing around with the custom view search and search results widget. On the surface, I would have thought I'd be able to easily tie these two together on one page easily, such as I want the results of my custom view search to appear in the search results section, but that didn't work out as planned. Is there a way to accomplish this without having the custom view search bring up a new search results page?

Added to this query if anyone is willing to risk a reply is that the custom search does not function with a category using sets and table key lookups, troubles me to wonder why such a widget is released for use when not all functions operate properly
