Good day Experts

I need your expertise on this livereport parameter

select providerID, SUBSTRING(providerData, 36,29) as [Doc String]
from ProviderData
where providerID in
(select ProviderId from DVersData where DocID = %1 and %2)

I need to pass the results of the SUBSTRING(providerData, 36,29) to an Archive Server query to return the physical path of the document in AS. I tried using the following but nothing works

SUBSTRING(providerData, 36,29)

providerData

[Doc String]

SubQuery SubReport

select l.docidno, v.basedir,d.docidstr
from ds_comp_location l , ds_volid v, ds_doc d
where v.volid=l.volid and l.docidno in (select docidno
from ds_doc
where docidstr=%1)
and docidstr=%1

The 2 reports work fine in isolation by manually inputing the [Doc String] .I need to provide the Action/Detail instead of having to run the AS report.

I think the “joining” of the two DBs would work. DBAs are the ones to do this. I’ve seen it done before and the system or app is irrelevant.

Speaking of joining databases, I've linked two MS SQL databases, before, and I can confirm I was able to get them to work in harmony, within a LiveReport.

Hi Rhulani,

I believe I used the following as a starting point: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/relational-databases/system-stored-procedures/distributed-queries-stored-procedures-transact-sql?view=sql-server-2017

I did it in SQL 2012, so I cannot guarantee the process is precisely the same, but it's likely unchanged.

That should allow you to query data from both, provided you have the correct permissions with the CS user.

However, in the later versions of CS, we have that new database connection object, too, so you could probably create LRs to external data sources, and call-upon them using SubWebReports, or similar, before fashioning the data together.

Hi Rhulani,

Yes, using the external database connection, there, would work, but, as the name suggests, you're connected to a separate datasource (or you could connect to CS, again, as a different user, I suppose). Bringing the CS datasource and the external one, together, wouldn't be that easy, I think.

Have your DBA link your external database with your current CS instance, so you can set the LiveReport query to be just your current instance, so you can query both, easily, I'd say.

Or, you can do the opposite, and link the CS database with that external datasource you wish to target, so that both will be available in a single discrete query.
