CWS database queries. Two questions.

Is it possible to query/modify values in a custom database table via the livelink content web services?

Alternatively via the CWS services, can you create a live report in content server that takes input, and modifies the values in a custom table, and returns the results to the calling web service client?

Hi Loren,

You can certainly run a livereport – check out the runReport method for that. I don’t think there’s a real practical way to create one though... at least not one that will actually do anything. But if you crafted the right sort of LR’s in advance you can pass in parameters and have the reports act on those, so that’s an option.

Alternately for directly manipulating custom table content you might be better off establishing your own ODBC/JDBC connection from the application-side.

Depends on Version of Livelink. Can you go to your Livelink system and do this

Create an LR.
Connect the Source to a "Custom".By Custom do you mean a table that Livelink did not create but like an external table totally out of this database some scenarios are like your LL runs on SQLserver and your "custom" is in Oracle? Typically when you use a Form Template to create a table the Application created it but it's your table. If you use that Form Template thing and its SQL insertion mechanisms you are probably much better off than a direct SQL manipulation
Can you run an insert query into that table using "Database Modification" on the LR turned on the play for a few times making sure it takes a parameter, here you have proved that an LR can do it
All that's left to do is to create or use SOAPUI to do this in CWS.

Now increasingly OT is tightening the use of SQL every day so that their application is not prone to SQL injection and so forth so you may find a situation where something you designed and is working in an older system wouldn't work for

the latest and greatest.recently someone told me that LRs created in yesteryears may still work but new LR's in 16 uses a dedicated connection and not like the current setup.
