Caught Exception in builtin - Compiler.Compile - database is locked

Hello experts! I've come across a new one and can't seem to find an explanation. A 16.2.4 production instance failed once on a service restart with the above error in one of the thread logs.

Has anyone seen this before and/or know how it could manifest? It doesn't look like a "database" issue per se (Oracle logs don't show anything unusual) and looks like it may be OSpace-related based on this question: CSIDE errors after VM hard disk filling up. When saving OSpace the error says "database is locked" (https://knowledge.opentext.com/knowledge/cs.dll?func=ll&objId=75440658&objAction=viewincontainer)

Hi Ben,

If I recall, this would be an issue with the SQLite database that manages the OSpaces on load, rather than the DB back-end for a CS-instance.

I've had issues with the database being locked for given OSpaces, so I need to provide in the IDE startup script, the OSpaces I want to ensure are loaded in an unlocked state, so I can make any sort of changes, to them.

Find your ide_startup.lxe, and find the following line:

changeStateOspaces = {}

In there, add in the OSpace name (ex: 'RKTENGINE') that you would need to make mods to.

This is especially important if you run into issues actioning an unlock of an OSpace, in a running instance.

I took at the link you posted, and I've seen the same behaviour, before, which is why I very carefully avoid making changes in Module Explorer.

I usually make changes in the source, and recompile (sometimes requiring a restart of services, depending on the scope).

Also, I keep a backup of the OLL, in-case it zeroes out. However, setting changeStateOspaces should be a sufficient workaround that would prevent the 0-byte file scenario.

Hi Nizal. Thank you for the detail, but I should clarify that we were not doing any programming or changes. This was a full production instance that, on service start, failed with that error. It was a one-time and non-reproducible but it`s production, so...

With that additional context I hope to hear from you (or anyone else!) again. :-)
