API Question (NOT REST API's)

First I am not a developer, so please excuse my question if I am not explaining it clearly enough. I have a folder I would like to apply a category to WITH values and I would like that category and values to get applied to all items in the folder. These items will differ for every folder, sometimes it will be just documents and other times it will have sub folders. My question is this, is there an api call that I can do this with, specifically, I apply the caetogry to the folder and then have it push to the items in the folder? Here is the other part of the question, the customer wants to use the "legacy" soap api's and NOT the rest api's.

There’s no short cut api that does this but if you have a folder then it’s children and sub children can be evaluated so if the top node - DataID can be applied a category then that Data can easily be applied to another one . Sometimes long running operations have a context method not sure if this particular one has that or not but these are things any Soap api developer would be able to do in a short time

Hi Patrick,

The CWS API has methods to get/set Category inheritance on a container so ostensibly you could use that to apply to the child items, similar to the function of the button to do that in the UI. It’s in the API reference under docman service:

I will admit I’ve never actually used this method myself but as far as I know that is what it is designed to do.
