We are experimenting with REST and CWS APIs to develop custom applications for CS16.2. We need to know if there are any compatibility issues with these APIs and if CSIDE supports webservices development.

CS16 will, most assuredly, support your CWS and REST API development. You should be able to view the OScript modules that manage them, as well, in CSIDE. It's always beneficial to understand how things work at the OScript layer...and also a great way to debug.

If you are simply consuming the REST / CWS APIs, you do not require CSIDE.
You can use any REST / SOAP IDE of your choice to interact with the services.
CSIDE provides an interface to customize Content Server’s business layer, APIs, etc.
