Unable to install plugin using documented approach

Hi,

Like most, I typically download the CSIDE zip, unzip it, and drop the jar in my dropins directory. Today I tried to do it as is now recommended, which is to use Eclipses Install New Software. I dutifully downloaded the latest plugin (after removing the old one), then I went through the steps as outlined in the IDE Install guide. When I add my archive I get the following error:

I tried both with the .zip and with the unzipped jar file. Neither is recognized by Eclipse. Is there some as of yet undocumented thing I need to do? I'm running Eclipse as Administrator.

I'm going through this process just in case installing this way might correct some of the strange behaviour with build clean always hanging (that will be another post).

Hi Hugh - I'm guessing that you're good to go on this one, given your subsequent forum post, however in case you aren't (or in case someone else stumbles upon this forum post looking for answers):

Assuming you're downloading 16.2.8 from https://knowledge.opentext.com/go/76224230 : the entry for "Location" should be the ZIP file itself (for example "jar:file:/E:/com.opentext.cside_16.2.8.v20190320_00522.zip!/"). From what I can see in your screenshot you have .jar , not .zip.

Please lemme know if this doesn't work for you, or if you gor this to work via a different route. All the best, Dave

Hi David,

Yes, I tried both .jar and .zip, and actually, .zip first. No dice. I reverted to the old-fashioned way, which was to just unzip the package and drop the .jar file into the dropins directory which is what I had been doing previously. I will check out your link to see if it's a newer version - the last one I obtained was com.opentext.cside_16.2.7.424.jar.

The CSIDE SDK starting with version 16.2.8 is no longer just a pugin. Take a look at pages 32 to 34 in my installation instructions.

Aaaaah - OK. that download still uses the 'old' installation methodology - just unzip the jar & drop it in. The new steps apply to 16.2.8 & up. So maybe there's some clarification that we can pop into the docs - I'll see what the team thinks.

And given you don't have access to the 16.2.8 SDK: I'll talk to the KB team to see if we can get that fixed up. I've got one ticket with the KB team from the March release; I'll ad this to the list :-)

Just providing feedback...

I just tried with 16.2.8. First I downloaded with a mac which automatically unzips the downloaded file (then compressed, then copied to a windows VM). Could not get it to recognize the zip file. Then downloaded from the windows VM and all went as documented.

Hi Hugh - glad to hear that this eventually worked for you / you were able to move up to 16.2.8.

Regarding the mac zip oddness: I'd guess that this came down to OS X including mac-specific stuff in the zip (such as .ds_store). Maybe that caused the issue. However that's just a guess :-)

Just to follow up, found you can turn off the auto unzip on the mac (forgot to mention I was using Safari). Preferences, General tab, uncheck "Open 'safe' files after downloading.

Do the new install instructions apply to *plugin* 16.2.8 even when your instance is CS 16.2.7 or lower? I'm jumping between multiple versions as customers are all at different revisions.

Yes, it works with all versions of CS starting from 10.5
