Sorting columns in Content Server REST API

I'm utilizing the /nodes endpoint in the Content Server Rest api. I can see that the api returns a columns object which represents the sortable columns (that contain a sort key). Is it possible to add to these columns? I attempted to create a new column directly in content server, but its not clear how (and if) this would filter down to the API. Mainly I would like to add the document's description as a sortable column if at all possible. How might one go about achieving this in the REST api?

Yes, the column is built that way, now you need to mark it sortable. Once that is done and the column is marked ready and made available then it should be good to go. Does the column show up in the UI's?

Sorry I mean to say that in the Facets Volume you're able to create custom columns for use in the content server ui. When you create a new a column you're able to specify the source data for the column and also choose whether it is a sortable column. My question was whether or not these custom columns can somehow be used in the rest api in order to sort response data. Additionally it doesn't appear that you can select description as a data source for a column.

Ideally I just want to be able to sort the api response based on the description of the document.
