Using yo to build your first widget

Hi,

This is something I used to know but I never had it written down. When you use the yeoman generator to build your first widget, what do all the settings represent? If you just take the defaults, it will error out as something it needs is undefined. See below.

The value undefined-all will fail. What should go here instead and what relationship is there with the name of your project folder?

Once again, I used to know this, but I've long forgotten because I don't get to work on Smart UI that often.

Are you not following the SmartUI PPt, not our class notes. I would use the SmartUI PPT and try to get further. What we learned in class is probably not what is now being done...

I opened it, and all it said was to use the instructions in the Generator's readme. I opened the Readme, and this was the sum total of the instructions:

## Adding Content

You can add a new widget with a sample model, factory and view, which you can

start with and modify according to your goal, by the `widget` sub-generator:

```bash

yo csui-extension:widget

```

Rebuild the updated project:

```bash

grunt

What is missing is the meaning of each field when you run 'yo csui-extension:widget'. I might get it from trial and error.

Doing some trial and error and some reverse engineering. I created a directory called Greetings and I ran yo csui-extension:widget from that directory. I put in entry for all the fields as shown below, and got the error as shown below:

I checked in the index.js file where the error occurs ((line 134, column 29 where it's trying to get the path to the extension.json file which it erroneously assumes is called 'undefined'

I suspect that there are some edits required to the code in the generator package even in version 21.1. Has anyone succeeded in getting this to actually run?

PS, I would totally open a ticket for this if I had the means to do it - 3rd party Tech partners cannot open support tickets, so I need to post on the forum itself.

I found the problem. You need to run yo csui-extensions without the widget first.

The "csui-extensions:widget" is a Yeoman sub-generator. It does not work in an empty directory. It is supposed to be run in a directory with the content generated by the "csui-extensions" generator.

The code that you pointed to failed because those values were supposed to be read from .yo-rc.json which did not exist in your directory.
