Searching email folder metadata in Smart UI OTCS 20.4

We have a requirement around providing a search function to users to search through email metadata on their emails stored in an email folder.

I added the OTEMail... fields so they are displayable under Search Regions, added them to a search query, and configured a Smart UI search widget to use this query. WIdget was blank, then I found that queries with email metadata in a Smart UI widget is an open issue (since 2017). Then I tried adding a customview to the search query, but when opening the customview it stopped building the page when I added any Email (advanced) attributes like Email To: as you can see in the screenshot. So no luck for using this in Smart UI to provide a search form, either in a widget or by clicking into a search form.

I saw someone posted a 'workaround' is to use the Classic UI, but as you can see from the above, there's an issue in Classic UI too, and also our users are entirely on Smart UI with integration to SAP, and don't use the Classic UI.

Now wondering if a webreport search can do this so it works in the Smart UI, and if anyone has gone down that route? I will check in OTCS 21.3 if this is still an issue.

the stopped building the page sounds like it could be a TRACE file, can you check the logs and see if there is one when this happens ? if so, send the file, with the CONNECT and THREAD logs to Support.

We decided there's not much of an alternative but to send users from the Smart UI into the Classic UI to do a search on email attributes. Not ideal, but it will do for now.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to send users to the Classic UI interface from a Smart UI page. If I use a shortcut group to go to the folder where the Classic UI customview is, it displays it in the Smart UI, and I'm back to the same issue (email fields in Smart UI search query doesn't display).

I ended up creating a URL pointing towards a folder with an embedded search customview in it.

Then in the Smart UI shortcut group widget, i select the URL as one of the array items.

When the Smart UI widget pointing towards the URL is clicked, the Classic UI customview search page opens in a new tab.

Not ideal, but I don't see any other method using out of the box functionality.

Do you have access to Content Intelligence - permitting you to use WebReport tiles in the Smart View for (at least) the users who need to search on email fields?

If so, I wonder if you could create a WR that presents a form to gather the information and then executes a search request (REST API) and returns and presents results?
