Hi,

I recently completed the Content Server IDE (CSIDE) Fundamentals & Content Server System Administration l 16.2.8 courses and wanted to start implementing what I learned in our environment. Problem is that the courses had everything on a windows server and we have content server on linux. I'm not really sure how to get started. Do I download eclipse & the CSIDE plugin to my windows PC and then remote to where Content Server files are at? is this even possible?

You can develop on either of Windows or Linux platform. Eclipse + CSIDE run on either of those platforms and CS too. Choose the platform that you prefer for development.

The development platform does not have to be the same as the deployment platform. You can produce packages for both Windows and Linux on either of the development platforms.

The differences between the Windows and Linux versions of a packaged CS module are:

The ospace file name ends with ".oll" on Windows, while on Linux it has no extension.
Textual files on windows use \r\n for EOLNs, while on Linux \n.

You cannot develop with CSIDE against a remote CS. The llserver service will be stopped by CSIDE, then CSIDE will launch the OScript VM on the same machine using the local CS configuration in the single-thread mode to be able to debug the code. Somebody else might correct my non-technical explanation.

One more thing to make clear - you do not develop on a productive server. You will install your own CS instance on your development machine. That is why you can choose the OS for the development independently on the production environment. When you build and test your CS custom module there, you will deploy it to the productive server.
